FOREST CITY | Construction on the new Hanson Family Fine Arts Center is on schedule, Forest City Superintendent Darwin Lehmann said Friday.
Lehmann, who has been providing a monthly construction update to the school board since the project’s groundbreaking in April, said earlier this month that most of the progress has been made on site and foundation work.
“When you drive by there’s not much visual above ground,” he said. “The first part of August the precast walls will be going up. That will be exciting to see how that proceeds from there.”
The project — a partnership between the Forest City Community School District, the city of Forest City and Waldorf University — is a $9.3 million, two-story, 29,743 square-foot state-of-the-art fine arts facility located at 305 John K. Hanson Drive across from the Hanson Fieldhouse.
The facility will feature an auditorium seating 600 to 650 people. A large stage, space for storage, set construction and a meeting area as well as capacity to expand in the future.
“It’s a good size building, so it does take time,” Lehmann said. “We’ll be excited for the fall of 2018.”
